Hunter Valley Children's Therapies school holiday group program

Looking for a school holiday program that is outdoors and away from 'screens' and is fun, educational and involves horses?

Our 2-day social and emotional learning programs incorporate creative activities and experiential learning opportunities to build capacity in the areas of social skills, self-awareness, emotion regulation and communication and leadership skills.

Each day runs from 9:00 am to 2:30pm. Parents are not required to stay (however are most welcome to).

Cost: $711.30 for the 2 days

We understand that attending group programs can be a challenge for some children. For this reason, we keep the group sizes to a maximum of 6 participants.

These groups are suitable for children in Year 1 – 6. If your young person is older, please contact us about other group programs that may be more suitable.

Children with a variety of abilities and capacities are welcome to attend and we encourage you to discuss any special requirements they may have.

These programs are run each school holidays. Please contact us for upcoming dates and an information package.

Hunter Valley Children's Therapies school student group programs

We are able to offer The HorseWisdom program or other specialised programs to both primary and high school student groups.

All experiences with the horses are ‘ground-based’ and there is no need for prior horse or riding experience. Safety guidelines are provided at the beginning of each session and supervision is provided at all times.

Challenges such as focus and concentration, difficulties with reading, sensory processing challenges and social skill deficits are all easily taken care of because everyone has the opportunity to learn at their own pace and in an experiential way.

Each session is 1.5hrs in duration and we cover 1 theme each session. The program can be run over 7 consecutive weeks on the same day and time each week or fortnight. Group size is 4 or 8 participants.

Hunter Valley Children’s Therapies is fully covered for Professional Indemnity and Public Liability (COC available) and a copy of current cleared WWCC’s can be provided.

A summary of the results will be provided to the school on completion of the program.

Please contact us for further details and we are only too happy to provide a detailed submission to the school.

HorseWisdom program - Hunter Valley Children's Therapies.png

This Equine Assisted Program is conducted in 7 sessions and is suitable for individuals or groups. This program provides a solid foundation for social and emotional learning in the key areas of:

  • Awareness

  • Boundaries

  • Feelings

  • Thinking

  • Relationships

  • Resourcing

  • Facing Life’s Challenges

This is a social and emotional learning program where participants discover how horses survive and thrive and learn how we can adapt these attributes to our day to day lives to improve our health and wellbeing.

This program is not a course in horse riding or horse training, however there are educational pieces about horses during the sessions that will improve participant’s knowledge of horses and herd behaviour.

The program provides participants with an opportunity to experience a new way of being and behaving through experiments with horses. We observe and interact with the horses, including grooming and leading activities. The program is run outdoors, in nature with the opportunity to build, create and learn lots of new skills.

The team at Hunter Valley Children’s Therapies knows how important happy, healthy and strong family relationships are to the development of young people.

As such, we can design a session or a series of sessions suitable for meeting the needs of sibling groups.

These sessions may focus on building healthier relationships by developing communication, negotiation and Theory Of Mind skills (understanding the perspective of others) and increasing participant’s awareness of themselves and others.
